Good
News!
God loves you. He wants a relationship with you, but there is a problem. The
world was broken when sin entered into it and because God is perfect and holy and we are not, we
have separated ourselves from Him.
Had things stayed like that we would receive only death and be eternally
apart from the God who created us. And because we were made by Him and for Him that condition (hell) would be
an unbearable and eternal reality.
But God is good and I don't mean good the way we think of it - I mean He
defines it! Not only is he good, He is perfect and a perfect judge as well. Sin cannot go without
punishment and if He were to just "let it go" He would not be just. The consequence of our sin is death, but
because He loves us (that's
present tense right there) He sent his son Jesus to be born as a man. Jesus lived a sinless life
and then took our rightfully deserved punishment and gave us his
righteousness!
But because Jesus lived a sinless life death could not hold
him. He rose again and after spending forty days revealing the truth, healing and teaching he ascended into
Heaven. He is alive! And it's our belief in Christ that saves us. It's something we are
completely unable to earn on our own - it's a
gift!
....but when does a gift become a
gift?
When
you accept
it!
Probably the most quoted verse in the Bible is John
3: 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish
but have eternal life."
If you're in the same
place I was years ago that's not the idea of God that comes to mind. You may have believed that He is sitting
in Heaven waiting for you to mess up and then dropping the hammer on you...That is the lie the world would have you
believe!
For people today who
are caught in the lie the verse that follows in John 3: 17 is so powerful, "For God did not send his
Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
If you're reading this
and you have a lot of feelings about religion and about God, let me tell you: He loves you, He wants you to
know Him and He's paid the ultimate price so that you can. All you have to do is accept the gift!
That's good news! That's the gospel!
I know this brings up
a lot more questions; How do I accept it? What do I do next? and more.... If that's you please send me
an email. I am a real person and it would be my privilege to help you seek by answering what questions I can
answer or by connecting you with someone who can guide you.
